Key Points

  • Hims & Hers reported second-quarter revenue of $753.2 million, up 38% year over year and above Wall Street expectations.
  • Shares initially fell sharply after the earnings release as a larger-than-expected loss and declining margins overshadowed strong subscriber growth.
  • Management raised full-year revenue guidance to $3.1 billion–$3.3 billion, but the key test for investors remains whether growth can translate into improving profitability.

Hims & Hers Health entered the week facing a familiar challenge for high-growth healthcare companies: demonstrating that rapid expansion can eventually translate into stronger operating economics. Following its second-quarter results on Monday, August 10, shares initially came under pressure, but the decline moderated in Tuesday trading as investors weighed strong revenue and subscriber growth against weaker profitability.

Revenue Growth Provides a Positive Counterweight

The headline growth figures offered several constructive signals. Second-quarter revenue reached $753.2 million, an increase of 38% from the same period a year earlier and comfortably above the roughly $699 million analyst consensus cited by major financial outlets. Subscriber numbers increased 19% to 2.89 million, while monthly revenue per average subscriber rose 21% to $92. The combination suggests that Hims & Hers continues to expand both its customer base and monetization, even as the company navigates a significant shift in its product mix.

Margins Remain the Central Investor Concern

The more difficult part of the earnings picture was profitability. Hims & Hers swung to a $127.9 million net loss, or 37 cents per share, compared with net income of $43.5 million a year earlier. Cost of revenue more than doubled to $272.4 million, while total operating expenses increased 48%. Reuters noted that gross margins declined for the fourth consecutive quarter, highlighting the financial pressure created by the company’s transition toward branded GLP-1 weight-loss products and expansion internationally.

The shift is strategically significant. Hims & Hers has been moving away from its previous reliance on compounded GLP-1 products and toward branded medications, while simultaneously investing in international expansion and new healthcare categories. That transition could create a broader platform over time, but it also introduces near-term restructuring costs and potentially lower margins. The company itself has indicated that margins may remain below historical levels as branded weight-loss products and international revenue become a larger share of the business.

The Outlook Hinges on Growth Quality

The most important development for the Hims & Hers stock outlook was the company’s more ambitious revenue forecast. Management now expects 2026 revenue of $3.1 billion to $3.3 billion, compared with its previous $2.8 billion–$3.0 billion range. Third-quarter revenue guidance of $880 million–$900 million also exceeded the analyst expectations cited by the Wall Street Journal.

For professional investors, however, the next phase is likely to be judged less by headline revenue growth and more by margin stabilization, cash generation and the economics of subscriber expansion. Regulatory and legal developments also remain relevant, including the Federal Trade Commission lawsuit concerning alleged privacy and billing practices, which Hims & Hers disputes.

Looking ahead, the outlook remains a balance between improving growth momentum and elevated execution risk. The stronger revenue forecast provides evidence that management sees accelerating demand, but the profitability gap means investors may require several quarters of clearer margin trends before assigning greater confidence to the company’s longer-term targets. The September quarter should therefore provide an important test of whether subscriber growth, international expansion and the branded GLP-1 strategy can develop into a more sustainable earnings trajectory. For global and Israeli investors following U.S. growth stocks, margin recovery, regulatory developments, currency conditions and the pace of revenue conversion into cash flow will remain key variables to monitor.
