Automotive Partnerships Continue to Anchor Commercialization Strategy

The company’s most significant announcement was a new multi-year partnership with Honda, which will support the development of QuantumScape’s solid-state battery technology for future automotive applications. Management described the agreement as the result of one of the most comprehensive technical evaluations conducted by a global automaker, reinforcing confidence in the company’s technology platform.

QuantumScape also updated its long-standing collaboration with Volkswagen’s battery subsidiary, PowerCo. Although the revised agreement reduces potential milestone payments, management indicated that lower project costs will offset the change, leaving the overall financial impact largely neutral. Importantly, the broader objective of transferring QuantumScape’s battery technology into large-scale automotive production remains unchanged.

The company said it is now working with four of the world’s ten largest automotive manufacturers, further strengthening its position within the rapidly evolving electric vehicle industry.

Expansion Beyond Electric Vehicles Opens New Growth Markets

QuantumScape announced a broader corporate structure built around three dedicated business segments designed to address multiple end markets.

The QSEV division will continue focusing on automotive manufacturers, while the newly established QSDC business targets artificial intelligence data centers, where increasing power requirements are creating demand for advanced energy storage technologies. The QSAS division will pursue opportunities in aerospace, defense, medical devices, and other specialized applications.

Management believes its solid-state battery platform can address the growing energy needs of AI infrastructure, particularly as next-generation data centers transition toward higher-voltage architectures requiring more efficient power systems. The company also confirmed that battery cells have already been shipped to a major U.S. defense contractor, expanding its commercial opportunities beyond transportation.

Pilot Production Progress Supports Long-Term Manufacturing Goals

Operationally, QuantumScape reported continued progress on its Eagle Line pilot manufacturing facility in San Jose. Management said production equipment is operating with uptime exceeding 90%, allowing the company to increase customer sample shipments while improving manufacturing efficiency.

The company expects to approximately double production output during the second half of 2026, supporting additional customer testing across automotive, AI infrastructure, and defense applications. Higher production volumes are also enabling more extensive safety validation, with management highlighting favorable results from thermal stability and durability testing.

Financially, QuantumScape reported a second-quarter adjusted EBITDA loss of $64.2 million and reiterated its full-year adjusted EBITDA loss guidance of $250 million to $275 million. The company also reduced its capital expenditure forecast, reflecting continued cost discipline while preserving investment in key commercialization initiatives.

With liquidity of approximately $859 million at quarter-end, QuantumScape believes it has sufficient financial flexibility to continue advancing its technology roadmap, expanding manufacturing capabilities, and supporting future commercialization efforts.

Looking ahead, investors will closely monitor the company’s ability to convert strategic partnerships into commercial production agreements while demonstrating continued manufacturing progress.
